About Me

Hi there!

I'm Judy Mui and I'm the owner of JayEm Laser Designs.

I started making wooden jewelry with Japanese paper as a hobby to de-stress and to relax after work. This hobby slowly became a growing side hustle for me as I started selling my handmade earrings at local makers markets in the Santa Cruz, California area. At this time, I was purchasing wooden pieces from other sellers, but I really wanted to create my own shapes to use for my craft. So, I found a maker space to learn all about the wonders of laser cutting! Once I felt confident enough to go off on my own, I purchased my first laser cutter and started designing and cutting my own shapes. After a little while, I found I loved designing new shapes and really wanted others to be able to use their own creativity to make something beautiful and unique with my shapes. That is what lead to me starting JayEm Laser Designs on Etsy in 2019.

The success of JayEm Laser Designs (along with other 2 small businesses) allowed me to quit my job and work for myself full time! I now have my own workshop in the Old Wrigley Building in Santa Cruz, Ca. I'm amazed at how much this business has grown through the years from 2019 until now. I am so very grateful for all of you (especially those who have stuck with me through all the years) and helped me to become a full time independent small business owner.

People ask me all the time what "JayEm" means. Well, it's very simple. JayEm = JM, my initials! :)
